Welcome to BCAF2017!

The Black Comix Arts Festival (BCAF) celebrates African Americans’ creativity in the comic arts and popular visual culture and is dedicated to the notion that all audiences deserve to be subject in the culture in which we participate. The two-day event includes a grand expo, kids activities, film screenings, panels and conversations, cosplay events and much more.

A partnership with the San Francisco Public Library, BCAF is a festival of the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation and is part of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations in San Francisco. In 2015 USA Today's editors and readers selected BCAF as one of the ten best art festivals in the U.S. So, join us at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens, and experience BCAF2017!

Yes. If you are attending the BCAF expo on Monday, feel free to dress in tasteful cosplay. Because BCAF2017 is a part of the annual MLK celebrations in San Francisco, On Monday, January 16, thousands of celebrants will be gathering for the many other activities at Yerba Buena.

Both venues are readily accessible by public transit and are easily located, if one uses paid, private transport services.
For those catching BART the San Francisco Public library is located one block north of the Civic Center station. Yerba Buena Gardens is located directly one block south of the Powell Street station.
Local public transit, SF MUNI, has many transit options from throughout San Francisco to BCAF. Check with these services to locate your best transit options.

As a practical matter, San Francisco weather is generally mild year-round. Last year, we experienced some heavy rains leading up to the event as part of the El Nino winter weather pattern. However, for the five years prior to last year's event, we had unseasonably warm weather. We expect the temperature to still be mild (upper 50s - mid 60s). Continue to check your weather reports as the date approaches.
There are numerous hotels, from luxury to economy, in direct proximity to Yerba Buena Gardens. NorcalMLK generally partners with certain hotels to get discounted rates for our guests. Please subscribe to our newsletter to receive the latest information on these hotels.
Guests are also encouraged to take advantage of other special offers they may have.

We have two main ways to support BCAF: sponsorship and volunteering. Contact us via our contact for below to let us know your interest. Also, subscribe to us below.

The best way to stay informed is by linking to us on Twitter and Facebook by ubscribing to our newsletter and We want to here from you. So, shoot us an email on the form above, and we will endeavor to respond to your query with 48 hours.
